Medical Interventions – Go! Link Sensor Interface (5)
The Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science program at FHS will be entering its third year in 2018-19, and students in Health Science will have the opportunity to take the Medical Interventions course for the first time. In Medical Interventions, students will follow the life of a fictitious family as they investigate how to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease. Students will explore how to detect and fight infection; screen and evaluate the code in human DNA; evaluate cancer treatment options; and prevail when the organs of the body begin to fail. It is the goal of this grant to provide the laboratory equipment necessary for students to study real-world cases and to expose them to a range of interventions related to immunology, surgery, genetics, pharmacology, medical devices, and diagnostics. By participating in the PLTW Biomedical Science program, we hope to “facilitate student learning and experience to prepare future-ready students for a global society and prepare students for the college or career of their choice.” (FISD District Improvement Plan) This equipment will be used by students in the PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science and Human Body Systems courses as well.
